Connection: Kate's Story

I think about hands a lot when I design. My husband’s hands over my children's eyes hiding a surprise to come. My own hands sorting through stones and shells on the beach. The way friends link little fingers when they share a secret.

Hands tell the truth. You see age, graft, love, worry. You see connection. For this collection I went back to that simple idea. Skin on skin. Hands reaching. Hands threaded together.

I started with photos of hands covered in sand, being washed in water, folded together in trust, holding another for strength or compassion. Even the tactile nature of forming pottery on a potter's wheel or sculpting. From there the shapes grew. Links that feel almost braided. Rings that look as though fingers pressed into them while the metal felt soft. Chains that feel reassuring in the palm.

Connection is for anyone who reaches out first, who holds on tight, who keeps showing up. I wanted pieces that feel familiar from day one, as if they have always lived on your body. Jewellery that joins in, rather than taking over.
